all i want to do is get home.

flying over the topography of my september, i realize that when i am 1,000 feet above ground, my world is on pause. i lose the power to communicate with anyone but the flight attendants whose life goal is to serve the "single serving" way, and the guy sitting next to me, who nods on and off as i watch him bob for apples in his dreams. the lights i see on the ground are my comfort, the only sign i have that the world is still functioning properly, and it is waiting for my arrival to my home. the closer to the ground i get, the more excited i become, as the large lamps illuminate baseball fields, where the bases are loaded. the cars don their headlights as they maneuver through over and underpasses, quickly trying to make it to their destinations.
all i want to do is get home.

how many people can say they drove to naples from dallas?
there are times when it is important to get out of your element and thrust yourself into questionable domains.
questionable was one way to describe naples, tx.
another is memorable.
kristal and i took a random road trip to the annual watermelon festival in naples, and we learned a lot about livin' and a little 'bout love.
not really, but we had a really good time.

okay so there was this amazing (and out of place) booth at the festival where they sold the most authentic cajun food outside of louisiana. this place was probably more authentic than places IN louisiana. seriously.
why was it so authentic, you ask?please see above picture.
this is a squirrel pelt.
why a squirrel pelt, you ask?
oh because they sold SQUIRREL ON A STICK.
there were so many cute kids running around this festival..everyone from naples was very warm and eager to talk. this was one of the many cute kids robbing a snow cone kiosk.wait, what?
psyche. it's just an airgun. no children were harmed in the making of this blog.
ohhh this guy. i made the mistake of glancing over at him, and he pulled me and kristal to the side and began telling us about a watermelon he had at one point, and how it got stolen, and it was in city hall, and he stole it back?i don't even know what the story meant, but i don't think he did, either.
more importantly, though, the pilgrim's pride chicken people donate a refrigerated semi to the city of naples for this amazing festival, and they fill the semi up with pounds and pounds of watermelons.
at 1:00 sharp, everyone comes to the tables by the semi, and everyone is given a full quarter of a watermelon. i am not sure who would eat a full quarter of a watermelon, but if anyone could, it would be the people of naples.

side note: somehow my guest counter reached 1000! you are the reason i continue this blog.
you, and my sanity.
you, and my sanity.

" I'm one card short of a full deck
I'm not quite the shilling
One wave short of a shipwreck
I'm not my usual top billing
I'm coming down with a fever
I'm really out to sea
This kettle is boiling over
I think I'm a banana tree" - Queen

note to self : blogging at the end of a busy weekend is a great way to wind down. thanks to everyone that still checks out my blog. it means a lot.

4th of july edition
we were so exicted about the 4th of july that we even made sure we came to parties in patriotic red white and blue cars! anything else would be unamerican.
grilling action ensues...
of course, there has to be fireworks of all shapes and sizes. usually the small silly ones were for me, and the big explosive ones were for everyone else.6.01.2007
we went to earth, texas for memorial day weekend.
such a good time was had by all.
such a good time was had by all.
sharing a moment with papaw among the veggie garden.
one of my favorite pictures.
only we would ask for a fire in the summer so that we could roast marshmellows.the best part was the fact that papaw humored us and did it.
papaw was taking us to go check out the apple orchard. we later realized that earth doesn't have apple orchards.
never have i met someone with as much kite ambition.
a storm cloud in the distance couldn't look any more ominous.
the epitome of our trip.
